Kyane paced back and forth in the hallway just outside the door. “You think there has been another breach?” she asked.
“It was just a blip,” Damon replied.
“We haven’t been able to track him,” Hinotomi said.
“So, we could have anything running around out there now?!” Kyane knocked her bracelet on the belt.
“Don’t take that tone with us!” Damon yelled.
Kyane breathed in. “Okay, sorry. We just have a problem.”
“We’re aware, Kyane,” Hinotomi said. “Huh, what? Oh good, we have a video that we will send.” Kyane looked at her phone. A video message popped up. She clicked on it. It was gritty video camera footage. Four soldiers and two Humvees stood facing the portal. The portal cracked and shocked the area. The footage flickered and flashed. A blur ran past the soldiers. They oscillated their heads to look for the UDC, but he was long gone.
“Oh,” Kyane mumbled.
“Get to the lab, ASAP,” Hinotomi said.
Kyane signed from her diaphragm. “Okay, I’ll be there in 15.” She stepped into the room. Desmond and Jamie looked at her. She felt their eyes dig into her. She knew they knew what she was about to say. “Hey. I’m so sorry, but I have to go. I need to run an errand for my parents. It’s really lame, I’m sorry.” Jamie looked at Desmond. Desmond’s eyes were ping pong ball sized. His fist began to ball up. She closed the door before they could say anything. She hung her head, huffed, then went to business.
